Alert #74 Vote today on Cleanup of Wilmington Delaware raw sewage dumping Port Penn, DE. June 29, 2000.
House Bill 671, a comprehensive ban on discharge of raw sewage in Delaware,
effective Jan 1, 2008, is on the House of Representatives Agenda for June
29th. It is likely, but not certain, that the bill will be voted on today
(Thursday). If the bill passes the House (likely) it will then go over to
the Senate, where difficulties still exist.
Please consider letting legislators know of your support for this bill. If
you can, come to legislative hall to show your support for the bill.

An article in yesterdays "Stooge" indicated that Wilmington has been
diverting around 6.5 million dollars per year from its Water and Sewer Fund
to operating expenses for other parts of City government, while claiming to
have no funds for cleaning up the sewer overflows.
Tom Noyes, assistant to Wilmington Mayor sills, had no comments for us.
City Council President James Baker has told Green Delaware he can support
passage of SB 671.
New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon has not returned calls from Green
Delaware.
Green Delaware thinks the Federal Government, the State of Delaware, the
City of Wilmington, and New Castle County should work together to fund the
cleanup.
This bill, if passed, will be an important step towards cleaning up
Delaware's waters.
