GREEN DELAWARE ALERTS

Port Penn, DE July 24, 2000. Green Party Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader 
(http://www.votenader.org)  will appear in Wilmington on Saturday July 29.

He is speaking from 11 am to noon at the Wilmington Friends (Quaker) Meeting House on 4th and West Streets, just a few short blocks from an I-95  exit, and from the Amtrak station.  A press conference will follow at noon.  A revived Green Party of Del.  (http://www.gpde.org/) has gotten Nader on the ballot in Delaware.  If Nader receives 5% of the nationwide vote in the November general election, the Green Party will be eligible for public campaign financing for a future presidential race.  (This could be a mixed bag, as competition for access to such funding seems to have torn the Reform Party apart.) 

Nader will be on the ballot as a presidential candidate in about 43 states.  This will be his second visit to Delaware this year. Native American rights activist Winona LaDuke is Nader's vice 
presidential running mate.  It's not yet known whether the Green Party of  Delaware will have any local or state candidates.

One of the most respected people in the world, Nader articulates the need for fundamental reform of the corporate/polluter controlled US political system.  Nevertheless, environmental interests are divided.  Nader supporters say Bush and Gore are essentially the same, and a vote for Nader is a vote for real change.  David Brower, long-time conscience of the Sierra Club, is one of the founders of  "Environmentalists Against Gore," who are urging people to vote for anybody but Gore. Others feel that Gore is significantly better, and that a vote for Nader is effectively a vote for Bush.   Come hear Nader and make up your own mind.

Directions:  The Friends Meeting House is at the intersection of 4 Street and West (401 N. West Street.)  If you are coming from the South Take 95 and exit at Martin Luther King Blvd. Go straight at the end of the ramp a few blocks to 4th Street, and make a right. The Meetinghouse will be on your left at the top of the hill.  If you are coming from the North--Take 
the Maryland Ave. Exit. Make a left at the light at the end of the ramp. You will be on 4th Street. Continue several blocks and find the Friends Meetinghouse on the top of the hill.

Parking:  Parking is very limited at the Friends Meeting House. We ask you not to use the lot. It will be reserved for volunteers.  Parking is available on the streets surrounding the Meeting House or we have made special arrangements with the Salvation Army to park there. The Salvation Army lot is located at Orange Street, between 4th and 5th Streets. There are approximately 20 to 25 spaces there.
