Alert #76 Event Wednesday, August 23rd. Ask AMTRAK to Stop Polluting Wilmington’s Rivers Port Penn, DE August 22, 2000. Green Delaware’s Corporate Responsibility Campaign is asking major Wilmington employers to do their part to clean up the City’s raw sewage dumping by controlling their own discharges and by supporting legislation to prohibit “Combined Sewer Overflows” as of Jan 1, 2008. The influence of Wilmington’s corporate communitythe City’s real rulersis needed to overcome the negligence of state and Federal environmental regulators, who are conniving with the City to keep the sewage flowing. For example, Shawn Garvin of EPA Region III recently claimed that EPA could not require cleanup of the sewage overflows because “Wilmington can’t afford it.” The target for Wednesday, August 23 is Amtrak. So, come on down to the Wilmington Amtrak station at 11:15. Meet some trains. Hand out some leaflets. Have some fun. Help educate Amtrak customers and employees about what they can do to “hold it in” during rainy weather. Green Delaware has written to George Warrington, the President and CEO of Amtrak, saying: “We have these suggestions for AMTRAK: (1) ask employees and customers to “hold it” during rain,We also asked for a meeting.
